2012 Route Descriptions Cruises 13 - 23
Cruise 13.
Stone - Stoke .
July 25th - August 1st
54 Miles, 47 Locks.
Canals - Trent & Mersey, Caldon
Station - Stone.

Leaving Stone we will cruise to Etruria Junction to join the Caldon canal, this beautiful rural canal is always a favourite. We will cruise the canal in it’s entirety ( although we are unable to get through Froghall tunnel!), including the Leek branch. Returning to end the cruise in Stoke-on-Trent.

Cruise 14.
Stoke - Northwich.
August 1st - 8th
67 Miles, 43 Locks.
Canals - Trent & Mersey, Weaver.
Station - Stoke - on - Trent.

From Stoke we will cruise through the Harecastle tunnel and then descend Heartbreak Hill, known to the boatmen as the Cheshire Locks to Middlewich. We will then continue on our way to Anderton. Here we will descend to the River Weaver Navigation on the boat lift, we will spend a little time on the navigation before ending the cruise in Northwich.

Cruise 15.
Northwich - Liverpool .
August 8th - 15th
84 Miles, 14 Locks.
Canals - Weaver, Bridgewater, Leeds & Liverpool .
Station- Northwich.

Ascending the Anderton Lift we will return to the Trent and Mersey canal, cruising towards Preston Brook, to join the Bridgewater canal. We will visit Lymm and cross the fascinating Barton Swing Aqueduct, before arriving in Worsley, there should be time to explore before we carry on towards Leigh where we will rejoin the Leeds and Liverpool canal. We will then head towards Wigan, where we will turn west and cruise the Leeds and Liverpool main line through West Lancashire, which is surprisingly rural in places. The cruise will go into the centre of the vibrant city of Liverpool through the docks, using the Liverpool link, we will pass the beautiful Three Graces, carrying on to moor in Salt house Dock where the cruise will end.

Cruise 16.
Liverpool - Middlewich.
August 20th - 27th
93 Miles, 16 Locks.
Canals - Leeds & Liverpool, Bridgewater, Trent & Mersey.
Station - Liverpool.

A reverse of cruise 15 as far as Anderton, before continuing to Middlewich, where the cruise will end.

Cruise 17.
Middlewich - Nantwich.
August 27th - September 3rd
58 Miles, 34 Locks.
Canals - Shropshire Union.
Station - Crewe.

Leaving Middlewich we will cruise the Middlewich Branch to Barbridge, turning towards Chester .We will continue onwards to visit Ellesmere Port and the fascinating waterways museum there. Returning to Chester we will overnight in this historic walled city. We will then retrace our route to Barbridge and from there to Nantwich where this cruise will end.

Cruise 18.
Nantwich - Llangollen
September 10th - 17th
65 Miles, 35 Locks.
Canals - Shropshire Union, Llangollen, Montgomery.
Station - Crewe.

Leaving Nantwich we will cruise to Hurleston Junction where we will join the lovely Llangollen canal. We will moor overnight at some of our favourite spots including Wrenbury and Ellesmere. We will visit the Montgomery canal cruising to the current end of navigation Maesbury. There is always so much to see and explore on this route. At Chirk the aqueduct is a foretaste of the fabulous Pontcysllte Aqueduct, the cruise ends in Llangollen.

Llangollen - Nantwich.
September 17th - 24th 65 Miles, 35 Locks.
Canals - Llangollen , Montgomery Shropshire Union.
Station - Ruabon.

Cruise 20.
Nantwich - Fazeley.
September 26th - October 3rd
70 Miles, 91 Locks.
Canals- Shropshire Union, BCN, Birmingham & Fazeley.
Station - Crewe.

A must for lock wheelers, as we cruise the Shroppie with its contrasting cuttings and embankments through Market Drayton and Brewood to Autherley Junction. Briefly joining the Staffs and Worcs canal to climb the Wolverhampton flight into Birmingham. We will leave Birmingham by the “bottom road”, through Curdworth to end the cruise in Fazeley.

Cruise 21.
Fazeley - Stoke.
October 3rd - 10th
73 Miles, 45 Locks.
Canals - Coventry, Trent & Mersey.
Station - Tamworth.

Leaving Fazeley we will cruise to Fradley Junction and join the Trent and Mersey canal, we will turn right and cruise to Alrewas, a lovely canal village, continuing down the Trent and Mersey canal through Burton-on-Trent to turn at Willington before returning to Fradley to carry on up the Trent and Mersey through Stone to Stoke-on-Trent, where this cruise will end.

Cruise 22.
Stoke - Manchester.
October 10th - 17th
60 Miles, 36 Locks.
Canals- Trent & Mersey, Bridgewater.
Station - Stoke-on-Trent.

Leaving Stoke on Trent we will cruise through the Harecastle tunnel, to Kidsgrove. There we will begin the descent of Heartbreak Hill, or as the boatmen knew them the Cheshire Locks, this has to be one of our favourite flights of locks.
At Middlewich we will continue towards Preston Brook t
o join the Bridgewater canal and cruise into Castlefield in the centre of Manchester.

Cruise 23.
Manchester - Salterforth
October 19th - 26th
67 Miles, 43 Locks.
Canals - Bridgewater, Leeds & Liverpool.
Station - Manchester.
From the centre of Manchester we will then cruise the Bridgewater canal through Worsley towards Leigh where we will rejoin the Leeds and Liverpool canal. On reaching Wigan we will head Eastwards and climb the mighty Wigan flight, always a challenge. The Leeds and Liverpool canal in autumn is extremely pleasurable to cruise. We will pass through the industrial towns of east Lancashire heading towards the summit level at Salterforth where this cruise and our season will end.
